“To me, composing means
not so much inventing but rather finding.
Discovering what exists,
pre-written, pre-conceived.
The autonomy of composing seems
to be broken by the
fabric of history, of people, of the world,
which lie outside of music.
I seek precision,
approximation in/of emotion, the emotion
in the precision itself.”

Re-release of Stallerhof
With the re-release of Stallerhof, QUINTON RECORDS brings renewed attention to an opera that still hits like a punch to the gut. Gerd Kühr’s composition, based on the text by Franz Xaver Kroetz and premiered at the Munich Biennale in 1988, is a work that does not skirt around social realities, but reflects them.
