Gerd Kühr concluded his studies in conducting with Gerhard Wimberger (Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria) and Sergiu Celibidache.

It was Celibidache who decisively influenced Gerd Kühr´s future views on music:

"Celibidaches so called "Phenomenology of Music" unites subjects that are separated in academic education and sees them in unity."

Following the advice of his teacher for composition Josef Friedrich Doppelbauer, Kühr continued his studies in the 1980s with a well established master – Hans Werner Henze.

During his studies, Kühr worked as répétiteur (musical coach) and choir-conductor.

In the summer of 2013, Kühr performed „Mia carissima Ingeborg“ at the Styriarte Festival, with the Arnold Schoenberg Choir and the ensemble 19.

Gerd Kühr started the season 2014/2015 with the opening concerts of recreation - GROSSES ORCHESTER GRAZ which took place on 6th and 7th October 2014.
